  • Dr. Avius Carroll

    (Board Chairman)

    Dr. Avius Carroll is the founder of Carroll Group for HEAR (Health Equity, Advocacy, and Research), a non-profit organization focused on reducing social determinants of health in low socio-economic communities through research, education, and coalition engagement. She also works for the state of Louisiana as the director of Prevention & Wellness. Dr. Carroll serves as the board secretary for the NELA Delta African American museum. In her spare time, she enjoys working with her sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and spending time with her family.

  • Ms. Sue Jones

    (Board Vice-Chairman)

    Mrs. Sue Jones has been an active member of the NELA Delta African American Heritage Museum since 2015 and has enthusiastically supported the Museum, and served on a number of committees. She is the wife of Judge Benjamin Jones (Retired) and mother of 2 adult children. She has been an audiologist for over 30 years and has served as Director of Audiology at LSUHSC/EA Conway and as Regional Audiologist for the Department of Health and Hospitals. She is also a very active member of Zion Traveler Baptist Church.

  • Ms. Latonya Owens

    Licensed Prevention Professional with 13 years of experience in prevention, advocacy and health awareness.

  • Ms. Ashley Mims

    (Board Treasurer)

    Over 20 years of service as a HR director in the healthcare field.

  • Dr. Gloria George

    (Board Financial Secretary)

    Over 20 years of service and experience in higher education working in enrollment management, financial aid & scholarships, and student support services. She is currently the director of TRiO Veterans Upward Bound at Louisiana Delta Community College in Monroe, LA. Dr. George’s passion for service extends beyond her professional roles as she serves on the Board of Directors for Trinity Visions and Jubilee Foundation, Inc. She is a Lincoln Parish Notary Public, and a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Omicron Iota Omega Chapter. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Louisiana at Monroe, a Master’s degree in Adult Education from Northwestern State University, and a Doctorate in Education from Grambling State University.

  • Dr. Kerry J Scott

    (Board Parliamentarian)

    a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Licensed Addiction Counselor. His work experience is in mental health, including working in inpatient and outpatient psychiatric settings. Also, he has worked in local corrections with the youth and the adult population. He has opened and provided programming to many outpatient clinics. Currently, Dr. Scott serves as the Director of Clinical Services at Horizon Rehabilitation Center, where he provides clinical training and supervision to graduate interns seeking licensure with the State of Louisiana. He enjoys giving back to his community, beginning with serving on the Board of Directors of The Ronald McDonald House in the past, and currently serving on the Board of Directors of African American Museum

  • Ms. Joyce Powell

    Retired teacher and Librarian from the Monroe City School System and currently Branch Manager at the Carver-McDonald Branch Library. In her leisure time, she enjoys reading, going to movies, traveling, internet research, singing in the choir, and most cherished, her service to the Lord, working with her community outreach groups. She is President of the NELA Delta African American Heritage Museum.
